I have it placed on a shelf in my patio (in the backyard), pointing towards the many bird feeders I have and a few bird baths. Initially I thought the visibility wasn’t as great as it could be—but that was because I wasn’t using the app correctly. The app is called o-kam, and although it takes some getting used to, months later I now love it.The key to seeing your subjects sharply (from a distance) is this: Once you’re in the app and click on the camera live view—you will see a bar on the bottom of your screen with multiple dots going across. The one BIG dot in the middle (blue color) is what you need to slide your finger to and stop on it (the app allows you to do it quickly, without any lag—-and the camera responds quickly to zooming in on your subject (for me it was birds—so speed is super important if I’m looking at them live through the camera and want to see them better. Another great thing was when this function was being performed, there wasn’t any noise that I could tell (so the birds wouldn’t be scared and fly away—and your subject won’t even know you’re zooming in on them lol). Anyway once you put your finger on that BIG blue dot, you’ll see an IMMEDIATE adjustment in the clarity of the picture (and it will be zoomed in of course). It is really really good and downright impressive.Unfortunately I didn’t buy the solar version of this camera but purchased the plug in one, which kind of limits where I can place it. I highly recommend going solar as I have another camera similar to this one (uses the same app) but is solar, and let me tell you when you mount these things to your roof/trim of your house—you’ll get solar energy even on cloudy days. I have other solar cameras scattered throughout my yard (3 within bird feeders—so that I can see the birds very close up)—but let me tell you—because those solar panels for those cameras aren’t mounted high up on the trim of the house but instead are mounted to a FENCE—they don’t pick up energy as well. This means that during the winter I have to either take the bird feeder cameras inside for charging,OR use one of those block power banks and just hook it directly to the camera outside; which eliminates the need to disconnect the camera and bring it inside.You want to know how many times I’ve had to bring the “roof trim” mounted solar camera inside to charge it? Zero times!!! And it’s now December!!! So buy the solar one if it’s available—otherwise the plug in one is also a very viable option depending on your set up.Also—just as another heads up—I do live in Missouri and you will want to take into account the weather in your state. For example—the states up north like Wisconsin, Washington state etc—won’t fare as well with solar but honestly it’s still worth a shot since I get plenty of solar power even on cloudy days. It’s really all about placement. Try to place it so that it gets sun both in the morning and late afternoon, while also avoiding placing it near anything that may give it shade.The last thing I will say—in the rare case you have MULTIPLE cameras (as I do), I would make sure that you don’t have them positioned too close together. (Especially if they use the same app). What is too close? At one point I had this camera and my solar security camera maybe within 10-15 feet of one another. The app was saying “connecting” and it was trying to connect for minutes and I was getting nothing sometimes, even when I re-started it over and over again. The pros are that the camera is crystal clear, it has PTZ function and zooms quite close, easy installation, network connection and this camera is made to lastThe cons are that the camera comes with setting that is so sensitive it literally picks every little thing that is in motion. However when you change that setting to pick up people it hardly ever catches motion. The 30 feet max they claim that the camera will pick up motion is nonexistent. This camera has trouble at ten to 15 feet and what motion it does pick up is pretty random and mostly my cat that is directly under the camera. It appears that the camera goes into a sleep mode to save battery life and has trouble waking up even when you are logging into the camera. At night the camera don’t pick up any motion however, when logged into the camera at night you can see through the dark and the clarity is amazing in my opinion but you have to be logged into it. When the camera does decide to pick up motion it only records for a maximum of 30 seconds and that’s all you get. My wife and a friend worked on a flower bed for over an hour inside 20 feet of the camera. The camera only picked up the initial motion and recorded only the first 30 seconds. This is concerning to me but maybe not to you but worth mentioning. I have a Ring doorbell camera 20/25 feet away from this camera that I paid $99.00 for 6 years ago and it far out performed this camera when detecting motion. For the cost of this camera I can certainly see some value in having one, it’s just not meeting my needs or expectations. I was very hopeful to be able to replace my Ring cameras with something that has better night vision and video quality “when picking up motion” and continuous recording while there is continuous motion. My main two reasons for wanting to move away from Ring. If there is a problem or criminals on my property up to no good it would only make sense that there would be continuous recording as long as there’s continuous motion occurring, not just the first 30 seconds.
