The fabric/Velcro strap provided would be unless on a metal pole… it was designed to go around a tree. If you look at the photos I posted in my review you will note that the mounting bracket for the bird feeder has two slots. You could drill the pole and mount with bolts that are secured with nuts and lock washers. I also found that bending the lower leg of the mounting bracket slightly upwards made it more stable. It seemed a little wobbly when the feeder tilted more forward. Better to have the weight of the unit going slightly to the rear than the front. I would suggest taking the BASIC plan that is a couple of dollars per month. Besides storage you will also get bird identification capability and the ability to record clips up to 3 minutes long. You must have one of these plans to get these abilities. To be clear, you do NOT need to pay for any plan to operate the app since it comes with a micro card for storage. Without a plan it will record clips only up to 20 seconds. With a plan it has an additional AUTO setting that allows clips to go as long as three minutes.
