This camera will record on SD card that is inside the camera (purchase separately, it's a micro SD card with adaptor for computer at any CVS). If you want to go back to an event, the app gives you a 24 hour time line. If there is activity, there is a blue bar in the time line so you don't have to watch hours of nothing. There is a calendar if you want to go back to previous days. If there is an event you want to keep (the SD card will overwrite after a few days), then you go to that event and hit the record button. It will be saved to your phone. With my Iphone, it uploads every night to my cloud service for my photos, and this event would be added. It great bc it doesn't automatically upload to cloud, only when you want to and it doesn't get mixed up with your phone photos. I've had no suspicious activity, so have had no need to save to cloud yet. If for some reason you can't get it onto cloud with your phone, just take out the SD card and record it on your laptop computer, so you really don't need cloud at all in that case. But you do need the CloudPlus app that makes the device run on your phone, so you have to download that.
