What is the maximum recording distance from the camera in both day and night modes? ? |
2023-03-02 |
Hi there! Nest cameras can record videos up to 50 feet in the dark. It may be able to see even farther during daytime. Placement of Nest Cam (Battery) is important in order to get clear video streaming and recording since it can be affected by changes in the light level, shadows moving across the frame like when a cloud moves in front of the sun. This also includes other movements within the camera's field of view like trees or bushes swaying. Here's a link where you can learn more about where and how to install Nest Cam (Battery): https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10919314 |

Nest cameras don’t let you move the camera remotely in the app, so if you want to change the camera’s view, you have to adjust the camera’s position by hand. When you’re watching Google Nest camera or doorbell video with the app, you can take a closer look by zooming in with your fingers.
To get the camera view you want, you have to adjust the camera’s position by hand. Use the Home app to check the camera’s view so you can adjust the position from the mounting plate or wedge if you need to. |

Will the camera work well through a window? |
2023-04-17 |
Hey there, your camera has a wide-angle lens which gives you a lot of options for camera placement. You won’t get alerts if motion happens in areas obstructed from view, so check the app to make sure your camera can view the whole scene clearly. The camera should work fine if it can see through the window clearly and there is no backlighting. Backlighting occurs when a light source shines towards your camera. Hi there, the mount of the Nest Cam (battery) is magnetic and can be placed on a metal surface. If you're planning to mount it to wood, drywall or plaster, you can use the wall plate and wall screws included in the box. For brick or stone you'll also use the wall anchors. Hi! I'm assuming so. The camera comes with a mounting bracket and a magnetic plate. My camera is connected to the siding of my house so the mounting bracket was necessary. The magnetic plate should adhere to any metal surface without the mounting bracket. |

Hello there. Thanks for your inquiry. The new Nest cameras support Nest Aware subscription, so if you add the Nest Cam (battery) to a Home structure with an existing Nest Aware (2nd gen), the Nest Aware plan will apply to every camera on a given Home structure. Nest Aware (2nd gen) offers a whole home subscription that includes all Nest Cameras, Nest doorbells and Google Home and Nest speakers (US only) and displays (US only) in your home. 2023-02-20 |
Not to continuously record, no. The battery will run down even when plugged in if there is any kind of regular activity in view of the camera. The one in the front of my house has become just a decoration, as it can't handle the occasional person walking by on the sidewalk without constantly losing it's charge (always while continuously plugged in). Piece of junk.
The one in back, where there is almost no activity whatsoever, stays charged. |

Are you asking how long will the battery last if so the software has a build in meter which shows the percentage of charge remaining. Hi there! Nest Cam (Battery) comes with a built-in and non-replaceable rechargeable 6 Ah, 3.65 V lithium-ion battery. Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and selected camera settings. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios:
- Busy - About 1.5 months of battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day)
- Typical - About 3 months of battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day)
- Quiet - About 7 months of battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)

This model should be battery operated so the only time you have another cable involved is when you are charging the unit. To charge these you have to take them down and plug them into a cable that is provided in the kit. The cable plugs into a USB out let and then into the back of the Nest camera, similar to charging a phone. |

- Tap the camera that you want to reset.
Tip: To help restore your settings after resetting your camera, write down or take a screenshot of your camera settings.

Hi there! No, 3 hours of event video history is what you will get with the Nest Cam (battery) without subscription. You still have basic motion detection, watch live feed, and get videos up to 3 hours in the past, which will automatically expire and be deleted after 3 hours.
To maximize Nest camera features (e.g. 24/7 video history), we suggest getting Nest Aware for your cameras and doorbells. For pricing and what you get with a Nest Aware subscription, check this link: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9233159 |

Correction, I have the first gen and mine work with the app. I have since purchased three of the Nest Battery Cam's and they only use google home app. I hope I'm wrong as I saw another review which says they don't, so I'm confused right now and don't want to lead you wrong. I would google search it prior to purchasing. Pretty sure the first gen were prior to the sell out to google... |

Yes gen 1 nest app, anything after is just Google not Nest and only works in Google app.
gen 1 Nest app
Gen 2 or after, Google home app only.
This applies to all Google Nest products.

It's very dependant on your internet. If you have quick notification with your doorbell, this will be about the same. I have both and usually it is no more than 3-5 seconds. Occasionally the internet slows and it is a little longer. That isnt the camera though. |

Hi there! The notifications you get from Nest Cam (Battery) should ideally provide instantaneous alerts. However, this will also be affected by the traffic on both your Wi-Fi and Internet connection, including possible congestion and signal interference from the appliances and walls of your home. continuously records to SD card???? |
2022-10-05 |
No, you are forced to buy a subscription where video history is maintained in cloud storage only. I have a doorbell and a camera and was forced to update to a high cost option - $120 per year for both devices. This will give you 30 days continuous cloud stored history. The lower priced option only records "events" - and does not provide continuous recording. The bottom line is that if you want to be able to review history, you have to bow down to Google and pay up (despite the fact that you just bought a $200 + camera) |

As far as I know, the new Nest Camera can't be added to the older Nest site on your computer or on the Nest app on your phone. You have to install the Google Home app on your phone. There doesn't appear to be a way to install the Home app on a Windows PC. I have some older Dropcam Pros and they appear on the Home app, but with those I can only view live video, no history. I use the Nest app to see my Dropcams and the Home app to see my Nest cameras. |

- Tap Settings.
- Select Video.
- Go to Rotate image 180 and tap the switch to turn it on or off.

“Connectivity Technology Wireless” “ Designed to replace a current outdoor floodlight use those wires for power" which? |
2023-04-11 |
It would be a good replacement option by combining the light with the camera. The only thing to consider is that this unit will only link to Google Home, not the Nest monitoring software. I think this is important if you already have nest products at your home. If this is a new security solution, then working within the Google Home system should not be a problem.. |

Hi there! Nest cameras, including Nest Cam (Battery), are originally designed to provide intelligent video security for your home. However, it's possible to use it as a way to keep a close watch of your animals. You may want to consider hardwiring Nest Cam (Battery) to avoid having to recharge it. Hardwiring will also enable it to accommodate up to 10 days of continuous video recording (CVR) and 24/7 video history if subscribed together with the Nest Aware service. And if hardwiring proves to be a challenging task for you, we recommend checking the Nest Cam (Wired) model since it doesn’t require any charging at all. My outdoor cam is wifi, battery operated. You don't get 24x7 continuous recording of the view from the camera. You can see a live view anytime. |

24/7 recording battery life? |
2023-01-26 |
Hi there! Battery life depends on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Check this link for more details: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10901611
Here are some typical scenarios.
Busy: About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day)
Typical: About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day)
Quiet: About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)
If you want to keep your camera plugged in at all times for continuous power, we recommend connecting it directly to a power outlet using the included cable and adapter, or the weatherproof cable (sold separately).

I don’t know all those specs. Being a computer forensics and former gov guy I can assuredly say it is possible. Moreover, I don’t have anything inside my home, we even have Siri turned off on our phones, bc as you know that thing listens to anything you say and has a 2 year backup on it. So if you are worried about that, I would start there. I hope that answers at least part of your question. |

I think so, I’ve been hacked multiple times. In my case it seems they hack the Google home app that controls it. Also my situation is unique, I have a crazy neighbor who doesn’t like my cameras. First I had Arlo they hacked it, then I switched to this. They hacked it. Now I have ADT. Haven’t been hacked that. |

Although the camera can run on battery alone, if you prefer it wired for continuous power, you can connect your camera to a standard household power outlet with the included or optional power adapter that will keep the battery charged. Please note that the power adapter included is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use.
For connectivity, the Nest cameras and doorbell connect to a secure network wirelessly, and is compatible with 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi US, or 802.11b/g/n 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for other regions. See the full technical specifications here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9259110

Can this camera read a license plate at night |
2023-02-21 |
Hey there, thanks for your inquiry. In daylight, Google Nest cameras can see about as far as you can, and their wide angle lens has a field of vision almost as wide as the human eye. Nest cameras also have Night Vision to be able to see in the dark. Night Vision range depends on how much light there is, but most Nest cameras have a range of about 20 feet in the dark. If there are any light sources in the area, your camera may be able to see even farther.
You can adjust your cameras’ video quality that may improve the resolution. The higher the video quality setting you choose, the sharper and more detailed your footage can be, but it also uses more of your internet bandwidth. This setting lets you pick the maximum video quality for your cameras. No matter which level you choose, your camera will automatically adjust its resolution and compression according to how much bandwidth is available. Hey there, thanks for the question. It may work with limited functionality, or may not work at all. Nest Cam with floodlight is only designed to be installed on vertical surfaces like a wall. It is not designed to be installed on horizontal surfaces because the downward facing angle would reduce the floodlight’s functionality by limiting the field of view of the PIR motion sensor (which triggers the floodlight when motion is detected). |

Turning off the mic disables live audio and audio recording

When this is on, events in your video history will include everything your device's microphone hears, as well as the voice of whoever is speaking to a visitor during a Talk & Listen event.
When this is off, you can still listen live.

Hi there! Nest Cam with Floodlight makes use of a combination of both the camera for motion and the microphone to detect certain types of sounds so you can get an alert when a person or motion is detected near the camera. You can control and specify what triggers the lights on Nest Cam with Floodlight using the Google Home app. You can choose between the following three settings:
- Turning on the Motion settings will turn the lights on whenever the floodlight’s motion sensor detects activity. You can also adjust the motion sensitivity setting to determine when the floodlight will turn on.
- Live viewing will turn the floodlight on automatically whenever you check your camera’s live stream at night.
- Lastly, if you turn on Camera events, then your floodlight will turn on whenever your camera starts recording. It makes use of both motion and sound detection to identify events and notify you about it.
We'd like to help you out with any other questions you have about Nest Cam with Floodlight. You're more than welcome to contact our support team here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

2023-02-13 |
If you record 24/7, you need the power cord otherwise you will be depleting the battery quickly. If you only record events (not 24/7) only when the camera detects something, the battery can last much longer. |

2023-02-13 |
Hi there! You need to have both the power cable and Nest Aware subscription.
Getting the Nest Aware subscription will enable additional features that include 30 days of Video History, 24/7 continuous recording, access to clips and time lapses and even customizing your own activity zones. You won't ever have to worry about missing any events as these videos and clips are all saved onto the Cloud. All these features can be viewed and controlled at the tip of your fingertip using the Google Home App. You can learn more and get the subscription here: https://store.google.com/us/product/nest_aware
Though it runs on battery alone, the Nest Cam (battery) can be connected to a power outlet with the included or optional weatherproof cable and adapter for continuous power. Please note that the power adapter included is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use, and you can use a compatible weatherproof cable (sold separately).

Hi there! Thanks for your inquiry. Yes, you can attach the wall plate with the included screws, then secure the magnetic plate onto the wall plate. Both of these mounting options let you power your camera with any power accessory like the weatherproof cables, or run it on battery power. Hi there, thanks for your inquiry. We can see how concerned you are if your camera gets removed or stolen. Although Nest Cam (Battery) comes with an auto-volt power adapter, we recommend using it only in the country of purchase as local restrictions and standards may impact the functionality of Nest Cam (Battery). |

we ordered a pair of these and when they were installed we found out we were missing a white cord in one of the units
can we get a cord? |

These cameras come with only one charging cable, bummer, I know. if you want to wire both cameras, which I recommend, then you will need to purchase a "Google Weatherproof Cable for Nest Cam (Battery) Only" or a third-party cable. Amazon offers many, I can only speak for the "Google" brand cable. It's a plug, it works, nuff said. Hope that helps |

Hi there! Nest Cam (Battery) devices don’t usually need to be charged at the same time. You can charge them alternately using the one charging cable you have now. However, if you still prefer to get an extra cable, we recommend contacting Amazon support for availability of the Nest Cam (battery) Charge Cable. |
