All you need to do is to register the camera with a NVR. Each WiFi camera occupies one channel. A WiFi camera can connect to any router or access point on the same network as the NVR. Regarding recording using SD card vs NVR, I think video will be recorded on both. I have not tried it in such configuration. If you install a SD card, remember to reboot the camera.
