When using the Large Solar panel with Tactacam Reveal cameras it is not necessary to use AA batteries in the battery tray, however it is wise to do so as a back up in case the solar gets unplugged or the cable gets damaged. The AA batteries in the tray would act as a back up, and power the camera if the solar panel was unable to. You are welcome to try the rechargeable Lithium packs we offer, now that the solar panel will NOT charge them. It has its own internal battery, and will only charge it. The Lithium pack would be a battery back up, just as the AA battery tray would while using a solar panel. If you have any further questions please let us know. | can i use a 12volt deep cycle battery with this? | 2023-03-05 | I don’t see how you would use a 12v deep cycle with it. It uses 12 AA or a lithium battery pack that Tactacam sells. I can tell you that I have had mine setup for about 2 months with the AA batteries and it has transmitted 1900 pictures to me and still has 90% battery life left. I believe that there is also a solar option, but I really didn’t look into that. It lasts a surprisingly long time on just AA alkaline batteries. It’s a nice camera. If you look at the pictures that are sent to the app there should be a green camera icon in the lower right corner of that picture and that signifies there is a video attached to that picture.
