Click on the "Settings" gear in upper left corner of Blue Iris. That box will let you know IF you are current or expired. If not expired, then click on the "Check for news and updates" button on lower left corner of the Settings box. If you have current subscription, it will show the current version you are on and will allow you to select one of the options. If you do, just click on the option that you want. Mine are connected directly to my router using a gigabit switch, however, they can also be connected using wifi. There are many cameras in its database to streamline the connection and some generic profiles if your camera is not listed. This allows a lot for flexibility in choosing the camera that is best for your situation and budget. The SW allows custom triggers and profiles for what will be recorded to the PC HDD/SSD and then acts like a server you can connect to over the LAN or remotely over the internet using a web browser if you desire. From the web connection you can see and change the camera views, trigger recording or view stored clips. Recommend you run all of your external connections through a firewall such as Ubiquiti EdgeRouter, open up a port through the FW to the PC running the BI SW, then run a software firewall on the BI PC and only allow known connections or IP's through. I was able to keep an eye on our home while camping in NC using my cell phone browser. The power and flexibility this offers for the price it is a bargain.
