I set my cameras to record constantly and send an email on motion so I can login and check playback or live feeds. I have 6 Reolink cameras with no central recorder, I just record on the devices now. The storage card is the issue with these, I'd advise buying a more expensive "robust sd card" with a bigger capacity to make the cards last longer. Cheaper 64gig cards can last about 2 years before failure - I've only had one fail so far and will gradually replace them with the more robust ones which are now a lot cheaper. Cameras and NVR connect via wifi and apps to a moby/tablet, so you can view footage live or recorded. Connectivity away from the home is routed via the Reolink servers, so you will need a profile/password to be set up for that, but no cost involved. Only future issue might be if Reolink ever shut down , or no longer supported the app/software, which would probably mean losing functionality, or even the system becoming unuseable, as is probably the case with most of the CCTV systems available now.... However, one that I mounted on a plank with a hole through the centre for the cables has had problems resulting in daily password requests.
