The slightly longer answer to this is I just tested my camera and phone running the Reolink app on my home wifi network while the phone had cellular turned off and the home wifi router cable to the internet was unplugged and I was able to continue to stream and control using pan/tilt. But good luck getting a proper answer from most camera vendors to this question because they seem unable to differentiate between having a wifi connection and having an internet connection. You can have a wifi network that moth camera and smart device running Reolink app are connected to that does NOT have internet. Why? Well maybe you don't want to incurr data charges in a rural area with limite dinternet or maybe you don't want to needlessly consume internet bandwidth in a location that has slow internet or maybe you want to have an in house system that is NOT dependant on the internet (i.e. what good is a security system that is completely useless when there is an internet outage). Or maybe you don't want your video sent across the internet to who knows where and watch by who knows who... But I will add that my camera was set up and configured when the wifi had internet and the app was downloaded via the internet and I can't remember if I needed an account (but I don't actually see one in the app and I just reinstalled the app from iCloud and it didn't ask for username and password)... | Terry W Jones | 2023-01-30 |
