Setting it up was super easy. I just registered online, installed the Spypoint app on my phone, added the camera by scanning the QR code, and I was ready to go. By the way, the first time you add the camera, be ready to receive a message that you need to update firmware. All updates are done over-the-air, and it took me almost an hour to get it updated because I had to install like 3 of them one by one. The camera's ability to connect directly to cellular networks allows me to receive photos and videos without any hassle, whether I'm using my phone or desktop computer. Unfortunately, the quality of pictures and videos is not that great. The quality of the photos that you get on your phone is just terrible. 40 kilobyte files that have very low resolution and look pixelated. Many times, you can't even understand what kind of animal is pictured, so blurry and scrambled it is. This looks “fishy”, as you can actually get better quality pictures if you buy 50 "HD" picture (or 20 “HD” video) downloads for $5. And no HD downloads are included in the so-called "Premium" unlimited plan, which does not make any sense. This looks to me like a bait and switch tactic and very unfair manipulation. I don't understand why you have to pay just to download high-res photos and videos. Ok, moving on. The battery life is decent, providing extended field use without frequent battery changes. I've been running the camera for a month and the battery level only dropped about 20%. This is perfect for the remote locations I often scout where solar charging isn't reliable. I also plan to invest in the rechargeable lithium battery pack, which lasts longer and performs better in cold weather compared to AA batteries. The free data storage and app usage are all good ideas on paper. You get up to 100 free images per month, and if you need more, the paid plan offers additional images and benefits. But you burn out though this number really quick when you try to set it up at first. Also, the camera motion sensor is too sensitive and takes pictures of every minor movement. Having a test mode would be great for setting up the camera without wasting your free plan, or having an ability to connect to the camera via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi when you are nearby would be even better. I've also encountered a few issues. Once the camera got stuck in the transmit mode and I had to do a manual firmware update via microSD card to get it unstuck, but since this one time I did not have any other issues with it. Also, the camera does not include a microSD card, and you need to get a specific high-speed microSD card for it to work properly. Note that the camera is super-picky about microSD and I had to try like 10 different cards before I found the one that works. While the camera has reliable connectivity and great battery life, it's kind of hard for me to recommend it really. It's “okay” camera with too many drawbacks and sketchy marketing tactics trying to lure you with a promise of free transmission only to upsell you unlimited plans and “HD” downloads.
