They reviews from Best Buy on the rear camera is one star because it doesn’t seem to work correctly. I reached out to the company to ask about it, they said the new software update took care of that, so I trusted them and bought the rear camera.Went to install it. It took me nine times to get the rear camera to even show up in the app. Afterwards the camera kept going off, saying there was motion when I was even in the house and not even near my vehicle.I wanted to sign up for the connect service. I was going to do the annual contract, but every time I would put my credit card in the app would crash.. so I uninstalled and reinstalled the app three times and it would still crash. I reached out to their chat service. They tried to walk me through a couple things that was so stupid and I got so frustrated … it wasn’t worth my time. They tried to give me a one month free code to try but it still want it my credit card and it would still crash. What’s the purpose of having the cellular connect so you could look at your car if you can’t even get it to work? They said the product is only been out since November 2023 I see that some people have had good luck with it but it seems most have not. Stay far away and don’t waste your time. Buy something else…. I mean for $700 I’d expect the camera to be in there. It does have a rear facing camera, but not one you mount to the back windshield.That said, I guess there is a rear camera coming for $200 (!!!) but is not available yet.Installation was straightforward and pretty simple. The app is a little confusing at first, but I got everything connected and the camera updated its firmware.So far it’s working pretty well. I do get notifications of someone or something is close to the car. Then I can check the live view to see if anything suspicious is happening. The live view does take a bit to load but it’s only 4g.You obviously don’t get 4k quality streaming. I’m assuming if you take out the SD card and play it on a computer the video will look much better.It does like to alert me when I’m getting in the car. I guess they call these parking events.You can talk to the camera to get it to do different functions. I’ve had varying success with this.It’s a nice dash cam if money really isn’t an issue. I do feel it’s way overpriced, especially with having to spend $200 extra for a rear camera and pay a monthly fee for the more advanced features (some of which are not available yet).It worries me a little that the some features are not yet available and the rear cam is not available yet. Most people don't need to monitor their car remotely or use AI-anything in their car. However, I decided to try this Nextbase iQ dash cam, which has a heavy emphasis on smart features.First off, if you're not going to pay for the subscription and use the "smart" features, you should look elsewhere. Without the subscription, this is a wildly overpriced dashcam with a sub-par camera. If you do want to subscribe to their services, I still have a hard time justifying this camera at the current prices. If they're charging a subscription, Nextbase should reduce the initial cost of the unit to attract users. However, this commands both a premium for the hardware as well as a very high cost monthly subscription fee. I think this dashcam really only works for rideshare drivers who are dealing with the public and could potentially need outside assistance in emergencies.
