The audio quality and noise cancelling are fine (I'm no expert), but a lot about the design makes them clunky and annoying to use. I use earbuds on and off throughout the day, and I want them to be light, easy to pause and take on/off, easy to wrap up and stash, etc. I will probably go back to the worse-audio-quality Apple earbuds after these because they have a sleeker design and are easier to use day to day.My biggest annoyance is extra noise. Buzz buzzzz crackle crackle. Frequent loud static heard in earbuds from the wires rubbing my clothes while moving/walking. When this static occurs sometimes my volume turns down on its own (this could be something my iPhone is doing and not the headphones themselves - but no other headphones have caused my phone to do this - overall these headphones are not as compatible with the iPhone as they could be) The microphone is unusable for phone calls because of the amount of static/feedback it picks up from rubbing my shirt. Very disappointing as this is the #2 thing I use earbuds for after listening to music and why I bought this particular model. Anything even slightly touching the wires is heard vibrating in the ears (although these are my first noise-cancelling earbuds so idk if this is common?)The wire is a grippy/rubbery texture that makes them hard to unwrap and untangle. The metal body of the earbud is so heavy that they fall out of my ears easily so I can't run or jog with them. They make a loud noise when they knock together as I put them in/take them out or put them down on a table/desk. Clink clank clunk. Profit. That's how I found out about the Moondrop CHU, which comes at a decent price for an increasingly niche item, wired earbuds. Now, the sound is good. I'd say they sound better than of the tens of other pairs of cheap buds I've ever had. I feel the mechanism that improves their sound may also be the fatal flaw in this product. I've never before had occasion to consider the speaker "filter" or "screen" on some earbuds. It's the circular area that protects the speaker, usually recessed deep beyond reach, past the ear tip.The filter on the CHU is larger than normal and kind of "floats," meaning if you press on it with a pin or a toothpick, you'll notice there's some springiness or give there. I assume this plays a part in the sound profile. The issue is, inevitably, some ear crud will end up there, and from that point, these phones will never be the same. You can clean it out well enough, but the pads/filters/screens seem especially sensitive to shifting, and soon you'll have one bud louder than the other -- which is supremely annoying. I purchased two pairs because they were so cheap. This failure happened to my first pair after a week. I moved over to the second pair, thinking I could have just had a defect, and they've lasted several months, but now it's happened. All headphones eventually break, but this is just bad design.Moondrop sells replacement filters on their website, and perhaps that is a big tell that they are prone to failing. But I don't want to own earbuds that need a filter replacement at regular intervals. I was able to keep a stable connection to my iPhone in the other room while wandering around.- Well built- Fairly comfortable.- Decent ANC, especially since it's a rarity at this price point.- Battery life is as advertisedNow the not so good:- Sound Quality. A lot of people have said the sound quality is great at this price range. I have a few pairs of IEMs in this price range that are head and shoulders above. The mids are lacking a bit, and the low end is missing some depth and warmth. A good test song for headphones is Earth Wind and Fire's September. When the horn section kicks in, there's a noticeable lack of brightness. Kick drums don't also seem to have any good sustain. Power Metal is my usual genre, and I noticed while listening to Judicator's Let There be Light, near the start when the Drums kick in there's a sort of hollowness to them. On other IEMs the drums have a full heavy sound.- The Case. It feels well built, but getting the headphones in and out is extremely aggravating. There's not really a good spot to grasp the buds. Getting them back in is also a bit frustrating, lining up the stem to get back into to case can be hit or miss.- Fit and seal. They are comfortable and lightweight, but the provided tips do not give me a good seal. Seal is absolutely necessary for good ANC and Sound quality. I ended up using a different set of tips, which helped a lot, but I still couldn't get a good seal.- Touch controls are WAY too sensitive. I would much rather have had a button.- the ANC Prompts are a bit confusing at first. A "Shh" (which sounds like "shee") is ANC on, a "Huh?" is off, and a "Hey" is transparency mode. But, I did appreciate that Moondrop did something unique instead of a boring ol' beep.- The App. Couldn't tell you how good or bad Moondrop Link is, it's unavailable for iPhone users in the United States.All in all, I would avoid these if you're looking for a set of IEMs. Moondrop is an amazing headphone maker, and I would instead recommend the Chus or the Chu 2s for daily driver IEMs. However, if you're not too bothered by sound quality and would like a low cost TWS earbud with ANC, I don't think that you'll find a better set.
