I’ve been curious about them for years. People give me a hard time for cycling with earbuds, and this is considered a safer alternative. I went for a 2 hour gravel ride to try them out. Putting them on, I found it was better to wear them over my helmet straps. When I turned them on, there was a definite tingle at the first sound, and I felt a little like I needed to pop my ears, but I got used to it almost immediately. I could definitely hear my surroundings more. The first thing I noticed was that I need to tune up my bike. I prefer to listen to podcasts while on solo rides. I had to turn the volume all the way up on my Pixel 7 (they paired easily, by the way). I could hear OK on quiet roads with the wind at my back, but as soon as there was wind and gravel, it was a struggle to make out what was being said. It reminded me of accidentally turning on the hear through setting on my earbuds. I also couldn't figure out how to skip ahead, but I later went back and found the directions (they are on a small piece of paper I didn’t notice in the box with the magnetic charging cable). It is possible by long pressing on the volume buttons. For the last 30 minutes of my ride, I switched to music – an eclectic playlist of songs I like. This was better because my brain could fill in what I couldn’t hear. The sound quality for music isn’t amazing. I would say it’s not very dynamic, especially on the low end, but that’s not what these are for. Obviously, you are trading off listening enjoyment for safety. About that, I feel like most cars are so loud that I can hear them even with my earbuds, and podcasts don’t have the constant sound of music. So, I’m going to stick with my earbuds for cycling. However, if you prefer listening to music and are more risk averse, these are definitely worth a shot. Maybe they are better for joggers. I might try using them when walking my dogs. But despite receiving a review copy, I've tried to be fair and look at both the good and the bad of the headset.We do use a lot of audio devices and have several different bluetooth headsets, including headbands, air pods, and some over the ear headphones.The good: I think the audio quality is great. Even better: you can hear yourself speak and others far better while still hearing through your headphones, which is really different from all other forms of headphones. This alone makes these headphones worth having, if you can get used to the relative discomfort of wearing them.The bad: I cannot get them to be comfortable. Using the black silicone band makes it worse. I'm not sure how people of varying head sizes can all use these. I've only had them a short while so I'm not sure the degree to which I'll get used to wearing them. And I'm also not sure how you can wear them while lying in bed at night, as the awkward firm band in the back has no flexibility. In addition the Afterskoky has a the ability to establish different volumes (e.g. one for high tempo, another for relaxing piano, another for podcasts etc).
