The case is rather thin and lightweight, but still feels relatively sturdy and has a unique pattern. They are kinda difficult to remove. I had some glitches with volume starting very quiet and then getting very loud and also some unpredictable pairing woes (sometimes only one earbud would pair). Overall I cannot recommend these, but at least they are unique.Google Pixelbuds Pro (top right): Surprisingly good fit once you learn how to “twist” them into place. Excellent touch controls, responsive, and has my favorite charging case fit, feel, and finish out of them all (love the egg shape!). Stock sound is decent, although quite mellow and sub-bassy. I greatly preferred using the balanced setting in the EQ to lower the bass some. Sound is not the most technical/detailed, but gets the job done without glaring flaws. Surprisingly good noise canceling, MUCH better than the Sony or Oneplus, and preferred to the Bose in less noisy environments. Honestly all things considered, these are my favorite of the group and are still my daily drivers. I’d like to see even more customizability in the app in the future. Very little touch control modification and the 5 band EQ are sliders and not stepped.OnePlus Buds Pro 2 (bottom left): Best sound quality of the bunch after EQ (namely decreasing bass -6db which is the lowest allowed, but I’d still prefer a bit lower). I’m actually shocked at how good these can sound, even after the hundreds of IEMs and headphones I’ve heard! I occasionally struggle with the initial fit in my left ear, but once dialed in, they are incredibly comfortable with their oval tips (wish more companies used oval shape!) I really like the look and feel of their low(er) profile charging case and their app is surprisingly great! Not a huge fan of pinch controls and there is more of a delay compared to say the Pixelbuds Pro. And while their noise canceling is an absolute joke (don’t use it anyway), their sound capabilities, long term comfort, and overall package make up for it. Sleeper hit on this list for sure!Bose Quietcomfort Earbuds II (bottom right): You are only buying these if you want the best noise canceling. In that regard, they are truly impressive. Although, I found the Pixelbuds Pro is my preferred choice when using the noise canceling in a quieter environment, as there is more of an idle “hiss” from Bose making it not as peaceful if not listening to something. The app and connectivity are both garbage and the 3-band EQ is a joke. These easily had the worst stock sound of the group and are absolute bass cannons. I adjusted the bass to the lowest -10db for them to be listenable, then they were just okay. Their fit was shockingly good though and were the most consistent to achieve this. Another thing worthy of note is the major design flaw that noise canceling must remain on. There is no way to disable this, so one cannot just use passive noise isolation (like I always prefer). This alone was a dealbreaker for me. Also, I strongly disliked hearing the obnoxiously loud orchestra sound when you put them in your ears, another thing you cannot disable since it's apparently a “feature” to measure your ear for optimal noise canceling. The case is the cheapest feeling and bulkiest of the lot too. Overall, this was my least favorite set and the worst value, even with the excellent noise cancellation and great comfort. Bose prides themselves in noise canceling and forgets everything else. I have a suspicion that their biggest competitor, the Sony WF-1000XM4, would be a better choice.Sony Linkbuds S (not pictured): Very, very good fit due to excellent size and ergonomics. Passively canceled out the most noise out of all due to deeper fit, but may sacrifice some long term comfort. Noise canceling was surprisingly bad, about on par with the Oneplus (guess they didn’t want to cannibalize sales from WF-1000XM4). The app is feature rich with the superb addition of the decibel level you’re listening at! Speak-to-chat is another incredible feature not found on these others, but I wish you could customize it to just pause music and not turn on transparency mode. Stock sound was pretty good and they aren’t overly bassy like some of the others, but there are more ways to tweak the sound to your liking in the app. Case feels a little cheap and I’m not the biggest fan of its shape for a pants pocket. Still, all that being said, I’d say these just might be the safest pick for most people (along with the Pixelbuds Pro) and represent an excellent value for a solid, all-around wireless earbud.Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro (not pictured): These fit the worst for me and were extremely difficult to get a consistent seal with. I was also surprised to find these were the only ones that had fatiguing treble. This type of tuning was an odd choice, as there is a treble spike that is very unpleasant to listen to. Case was similar to the OnePlus but a little bulkier. I didn’t play around with the app too much, as I knew very quickly I wouldn’t be keeping these, but I got the impression that you aren’t getting the full experience unless you have a Samsung device. Regardless, these seemed overpriced compared to the others, even had they fit nicely.Wrapping up, most of if not all of these products could be so much better with updates to the app enabling more customizability. It’s clear to me that sound quality was a complete afterthought to some of these companies (Google didn’t even launch with an EQ. What?), while others have very generic/minimal options for adjustments. Some have features that are half baked while others are so close to perfection. Another obvious, yet common attribute shared between a few of these (and many other headphones) was an overly bassy stock sound that sometimes completely overwhelmed the rest of the frequency spectrum and smudged details. Lastly, noise canceling in general is a completely overrated and often useless feature unless you are going straight to the top IMO and even then I’ve always been one for passive isolation only (all noise canceling gives me that plugged ear/head sensation and sometimes nausea). Instead of giving you my life story, I'll give you what ya want.The connection issues are very real, these things are a nightmare to connect to anything. If you're often swapping devices with them, you're going to have a constant bottleneck in your life which will be getting these headphones to connect to anything. Then after you've finally gotten both earbuds to connect, they will randomly disconnect, for no apparent reason, from time to time too. One last thing about their connection issues: when I was connected to my PC with my old ones, if I had to go to the opposite side of the house or something - yeah they'd disconnect, but when I came back to my PC they'd reconnect seamlessly and it just worked. These not only do not reconnect, they never properly disconnect when out of range so you can't just reconnect them. You have to put them back in the case, mess around with your PC's Bluetooth settings until it says they're disconnected, then you have to go through the tedious process of getting them to connect again. It sucks.Now on to the case, it's trash. Yeah, it's slightly smaller than the other one but it lost wireless charging, doesn't have a latch like the old one, and it is not sturdy at all. It's the case for a $300 pair of earbuds and you could easily snap the lid off of it while putting it in your pocket because it's so flimsy. The headphones have almost non-existent magnets that hold them in the case and there is no latch or magnet for the lid at all. Thus, if you drop this case there is no chance the earbuds will remain in the case. I honestly can't believe Bose released this low-quality product as their "flagship" earbuds.Sound Quality - the same as the old model except if you hear something high pitch it will overload the speaker and make a very "shrill" noise in your ear that hurts. Overall, the sound quality has gotten worse from the last pair.Noise cancellation - is the same as the last pair, if not a little better because the overall shape, design, and fit of the new earbuds are much better than the first model.A niche issue but actually is the dealbreaker for me and is the reason I'm here giving a detailed bad review: There is not anywhere in the settings to turn the touch buttons off on the earbuds. I often go on long runs outside and once I start sweating, buttons start getting pressed by my sweat. This constantly disrupts my audiobook and my run flow. This set was a free upgrade why my gen 1 version of these crapped out. When they work, they sound great. When they fail to work, they're incredibly frustrating. The noise cancellation is excellent, as is the sound. However, they have a tendency to fail to connect to my mobile device and occasionally need to be reset and relearned. The frustrating thing about that is you can't reset them when you're on the go because they have to be plugged into a power source. So if you don't have one with you, then you have to go without until you can plug them into power. On top of that, while they're in use, they will occasionally reboot (I assume the software crashes) and you hear the "power-up" tone, followed by (hopefully) the tone indicating they're connected to BT. Then you have to unlock your device and press play again. You'd think that Bose would have caught up to the cheap Chinese BT ear buds that DON'T crash and reboot.Additionally, I have personal grips about this new model. The case, for example, is stupidly large. It's probably twice the bulk of competitors out there. I have a pair of Sony ANC buds that is half the size and the Apple product is also about half the size. Additionally, the case doesn't "stand up" like other brands do (the Sony ones, for example). Another thing I wish was possible with these was to pair them with multiple devices, like I can with my Bose on-ear BT headphones. That way I could transition between my phone and tablet with the press of a button. With these you have to "forget" them on one device and then pair them to the other. It's a hassle. Another thing I dislike is that Bose did away with wireless charging for the case that was a feature of the first gen of these. That was a nice convenience. This headphones have a cool feature that even if you have in “transparent mode” (not canceling noise) if something loud are you starts happening then it will automatically change to noise canceling… I’m not sure if this is the reason why but say that you have noise canceling on and someone is hammering next to you it lets that sharp sound in, if you get next to a very loud engine it lets in like very high pitch specks of sound and it hits you right in the brain. I have not yet found a solution to this, I tried turn off that automatically feature and couldn’t figure it out. Last, the case, when your fingers are bit sweaty or we in anyways getting the headphones out of the case is not a seem less thing, you have to go at it sideways pinch it with your fingers… it’s weird that’s allThe reason for the low reviews: this is a very expensive product from a brand you expect the best quality. The goods are very good, but the nada are very bad and so many of them. The buds seem to me to be very bass-heavy, but in saying that I'm aware that the tight fit of this sort of earbud design is so much a part of bass response that it might be my fit, though it is entirely comfortable, is too tight. I run the bass end of the equalizer at about -4 (db? - there's no volume unit specified).OK, now having said that, the bass response seems to me to extend way down the spectrum in the orchestral music that I listen to. Far and away more satisfying than any other in-ear phones, wireless or wired.Now for the cons. Some of these are simply eccentric design decisions. Some of them suggest sloppiness in overall product management or integration into the overall product experience.1) The fit in the case is peculiar. Getting them out requires an odd pinching of forefinger and thumb, and I can't take out the left bud with my right fingers - I have to use the left hand. Similarly, stowing the buds isn't intuitive at all, either in the left-right axis or top-bottom axis. I'll probably get used to it, but it's definitely a little strange. I have the glossy black ones, so there are no tell-tale shadows in the case to guide the eye;2) There doesn't seem to be any obvious way of determining how they work when you first open the package. There's a small QR code, but that gives information about installation, not use. If you go to the Bose website (at the time of my writing this review) and download the user guide in English, it turns out to be in French! And at least one of the web links from the app is dead.3) Controlling the buds involves touching the outside of the buds in various ways: brief touch, long touch, or a slide of the finger. This has the advantage of being "solid-state", as opposed to a clickable switch that can wear out. But the buds sit far enough out from the ears that knowing exactly where that "touchable" area is to be found can be difficult. And that is a problem, because a tentative slide (change the volume) can be interpreted as a touch (stop/start) - you need to be confident.4) The app is poorly designed.
