Update: 1 week laterThe bad outweighs the good for this unit.The app is very difficult to navigate. Things that should be simple like turning off motion detection require several steps that are in unrelated menus. This leads you to click lots of options hoping to find the correct path to do whatever it is you're trying to do.The record function is wonky. My son was outdoors and walked past the camera twice. I have it set for 20 seconds of human detection. It took an unclear picture of his face. No video. What's the point of 2k if ot takes blurry pictures of faces in broad daylight?There is no option to temporarily shut off detection, like when I want to go outside and do things. My eufy allows you to suspend detection so I don't have multiple notifications that I was outside. You either need to turn this off or set a period to record.This is being sold under several brands on Amazon (see picture). If not, you're out of luck.Longer reviewI've owned a eufy video doorbell for a few years. It's major flaw is the delay when someone rings the doorbell. Theres usually about a 30 second delay. Same for recording, it misses people who quickly walk to the door and walk away (fed ex, ups, mail, etc). So a quick "porch pirate" could grab our package and walk away without being recorded.This doorbell does a good job of notifying when the doorbell is rung. Maybe a 2 second delay. It's not the most obvious thing, only showing up in my notifications. It would be very easy to miss. I would prefer it to take over my screen, be right in my face. Monitoring is decent, not great. Granted I have limited experience with it, but there was a pretty big delay between noticing me and recording during testing.The quality of the camera is inferior to the eufy. The plastic frame feels super cheap. It locks in place with a single security screw. Better than nothing, but not by much (especially if you use the tape option). I turned on the "tamper alarm" and was able to walk around with it. That means someone could take the whole unit and walk away with it. It might make a noise when the screw is removed, but that does no good if it is in another location. Also, the micro sd card is in the unit. I would prefer it to be in the chime so it is safely inside. For the eufy it has a "homebase" where the data is stored inside the house. With this unit if the card is removed I'm guessing you lose all video. That's no help. Also, I'm worried about rain and water getting into the unit. It doesn't have a shield on the top like a lot of cameras to keep rain from rolling down it.The video quality seems decent, but there are some major issues it needs to overcome in order to be a better option (better quality, more sensitive tamper alarm, more notable notifications, and storing sd card in chime). I'm undecided if I will keep this one or try another. |
