Okay, but returning them here's why... |
Got these for a steal on prime day for $118. I Was planning on upgrading from my seemingly dated Sony xb950n headphones and my on ear beats solo 3. I will try and keep this short but direct. And mostly compare to the xb950's as they are both Sony, over the ear, and extra bass.Sound quality - Sound is decent with better mids and highs than my xb950s but honestly not by much. The lows sound more muffled than bassy on the xb910n's. Unfortunately the xb950s don't have an eq adjustment setting in the Sony headphones app which is upsetting otherwise I feel with adjustments the highs and mids in the xb950s would be on the same level. ANC is slightly better on the xb10n's. As far as bass goes my xb950n I typically keep mine around +3 and it sounds great for listening to bass heavy hip hop like Westside Connection. The +3 when listening to rock keeps the kick drum sounding nice and punchy and not overshadowing the mids and highs too much. Protest the Hero sequoia throne sounds pretty epic on my xb950s.Volume - the xb910n's don't get very loud compared to my xb950s. I would say they maybe get up to 70% volume compared to my xb950s.Size - admittedly the xb950's are bulky. I attached a photo to show that they're about the same size. The case and the way the xb910n's fold up does make for a smaller footprint for traveling or packing away.Passthrough sound - The xb910n's have passthrough sound and my xb950s don't. I like passthrough in certain settings. Sometimes having completely isolated sound in public can make you feel a little vulnerable depending where you are. Now I do have a pair of in ear Samsung buds pro 2's that have great passthrough audio that almost sounds like there's nothing in your ears. The passthrough on those blows the xb910n's out of the water. The xbn910n's have this digital sounding passthrough that isn't very good.Touch controls - I prefer the touch controls on the xb910n's over the physical buttons on my xb950s. This is only a personal preference. (I had to Google how to pause with the touch controls and it's a double tap to play\pause vs a single tap). I had no issues with touch controls inconsistency like others had mentioned. My hands were dry each use.USB C - USBC charging is a nice addition coming from the dated micro USB my xb950s have. Considering all my other devices charge with USB C. The quick 4.5 hours of music from a 10 min charge is nice and convenient as well.Overall the poor passthrough made it hardly feel like an upgrade. I can live with carrying around an extra micro USB cable when traveling to charge if I need to. Touch controls are convenient but not a deal breaker for me. Maybe if the passthrough audio, microphones, and the ANC we're better I would keep them. Especially for the price. Sadly even at the price point I got them at I still catch myself grabbing my xb950n's instead. If I didn't have the xb950s I would absolutely keep these for the price I got them at. At retail price of $250 I truly don't think these are worth it. Hopefully this helps someone that was in a similar situation and is thinking of trying to 'upgrade'. |
