Mostly good for several years, stopped working for no apparent reason |
Overall we liked this product while it lasted. Our one complaint is that the minimum portion size is too big. Our cat tends to bolt as much food down as he can and then puke. The fix for that is to give him several small feedings spaced apart. There are enough feeding events possible in the software, but the smallest portion on this feeder wasn't small enough. We worked around that by adding a splitter from another company. It attached to the outlet and diverted food to two bowls, one of which we covered and emptied back into the bin each night.The big problem is that it started seizing and throwing code "F02". The troubleshooting sheet offers no advice except to call Customer Service. I thought it might have been because we changed to food that was more crumbly, which left crumbs in the conveyor. I thought it might be making the works stick and overload the motor. Customer Service didn't disagree, but didn't confirm either. More frequent cleaning seemed to work for awhile.Then we had to leave for a weekend and I cleaned the feeder thoroughly to make sure it functioned while we were gone. After it was dry and reassembled I got distracted with something else, a feeding time came up while it was empty. IT STILL THREW CODE FO2!! Meaning it wasn't the new food, it was something else, and it might still fail while we were gone. We didn't have a choice, went anyway, and found it had failed again while we were gone. It could no longer be depended on for one of the main reasons we got it.There is nothing visibly amiss in the conveyor or any of the drive system. The software still works fine. So it appears that normal wear and tear, so slight that you can't even see it, is capable of turning it into trash. Sorry, low quality and durability in such an expensive device in inexcusable. And Customer Service offered no recourse. No more PetSafe products for us. |
