I bought this Camera due to reviews and the fact that it comes with a SIM Card with 100 Free Data which would allow me to get this camera up and running and use with the free data promised for a short time , however when I tried to get the Camera on line it kept saying Low Data , Poor Signal and kept referring me to a Payment sign up for £12.99 per month , What a rip off !! Sent the camera back ? |

Not great - returned - it's a subscription model device, poor resolution. |
Pros -- Build quality is fine for the price point - abs quality pastic. It gets a little cheaper feeling round the card slots, but is acceptable. Actually refreshing levels effort have gone into the packing and general look of the unit.- Set-up was easy, recognised a GiffGaff (02) sim without issue and connected straight away.- Control was responsive on tilt and pan, with little lag.- App was fairly intuitive, if a little written in broken English in placesCons- Big downside - the image quality was very poor, it looked more like 720 than 2k - definition fuzzy, lots of noise and poor focus. Anything over 10m v poor indeed (ie across the street). Significant noise on colour night vision.- It's a subscription model if you want the 2k resolution claimed (sigh). Not mentioned anywhere on the Amazon page; you can access the free cloud storage sure, but only in low res. Big boo for this slight of hand. As I was informed by the manufacturer, it's either take out the SD and physically read it or pay a monthly fee. hmmm- Connection a little glitchy - I sort of expected this from a 4G LTE unit - how much you can live with re-starting the app etc, is kind of personal preference, as of course it depends on the signal available and the circumstance it's being used in. It's also difficult to say if this an app issue or a mobile signal issue.I'm exploring using an old phone as a wifi hot-spot and connecting a 1080p wireless camera I already own made by another manufactuer Ezviz instead. This is currently available for £60 and gives better quality images than the ieGeek unit. It also genuinely charges to 95%+ in full sun when in balanced recording mode via the solar panel. I'll also try similar unit from Reolink, which is currently £40-70 more expensive than this one.All wake-up wireless battery units suffer from the same basic problem as they're trying to conserve power, and that's that there's a good few seconds delay before they wake up and start recording, ie typically you'll miss the start of an incident - for continuous recording you need a power supply.Sorry ieGeek, I honestly wanted to like the unit as a cost-effective solution, but the visuals and the extra monthy cost meant it's false economy. |
