The power went out once but the batteries powered the unit without problems. It was not necessary to re-program once electricity came back on. It is used to feed 2 feral cats and has dropped the appropriate amounts for each bowl at the appropriate time. If you are keeping this feeder on a porch, or any place that is close to an outside wall, ants will find their way in. If it’s in your house, then you have to attack the source of the ants. If they’re coming through an outside wall, you have to use whatever technique you can to stop them while they’re still outside. Ants will not cross water. For our outdoor cats, I put their dish in the middle of a large plate in about a half inch of water. The ants will finally give up and go away. I know this is not much help for a feeder.
